What is wisdom?
“Wisdom is the application of knowledge.
It is interesting to note that Solomon did not ask God to bless the people or provide for the needy. He asked God to give him something, wisdom. This was not a selfish request because the outcome was for the good of the people. There is nothing wrong with wanting to accumulate knowledge or wealth as long as your heart is right and your thinking goes beyond yourself. It is possible that your biggest gift to the world is your own personal development and that is why God commended Solomon for requesting wisdom and knowledge.
If you chase after money, you are chasing the wrong thing. When a poor person wins the lottery they usually end up in the exact same financial position within a couple of years. Similarly, if you were to take all the riches from a millionaire, chances are within two years they would be a millionaire again. This is because wisdom is far more important than money. If you have the knowledge to make millions of pounds, that is far greater than having the millions of pounds.
That is why we read,
“How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver!”
Wisdom is not just the ability to make money. That may be one example of an aspect to wisdom, but wisdom is being able to apply knowledge. This spills out into many different aspects of life, but if you have wisdom do not be surprised when people travel miles just to come and tap into your understanding.
Albert Einstein said,
“Try not to be a person of success, but a person of value.”
If you are a person of value and great wisdom, the success will follow however that looks for you. That is why Jesus says,
“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33
Therefore, get wisdom, get understanding. Next question, how?
