Just weeks after being told by doctors he might need crutches for the rest of his life, a Lichfield businessman has walked unaided up the Wrekin!
Samuel Leeds, a 27 year old self-made millionaire, suffered a terrible accident in July of this year (2018) while on a charity mission to Uganda. He plunged down a waterfall while white water rafting in the Nile, shattering his knee in several places and loosing a quarter of his blood.
He spent the next week in a Ugandan hospital after having an emergency operation on his injured leg. Shortly after his return home, his doctor at Spire Hospital in Little Aston told him he might never walk properly again and could permanently need a walking aid.
But on Sunday Samuel threw away his crutches and completed a four and a half hour walk in his full plaster cast to the top of the Wrekin in Shropshire, With him was his wife Amanda who is expecting their second child in January. The sight of his plaster cast apparently inspired several people struggling up the path to the summit to ‘gain their second wind'.
