1. How To Solve The UK Housing Crisis: Create More High Quality HMOs!
Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) are houses that are rented out by the room. In the past, these houses have been associated with low quality accommodation. However, nowadays, there are extremely high end HMOs for working professionals.
Dividing houses into smaller units offers people the option of a single rent payment (including all bills), while reducing pressure on overall housing stock. Even if you have no interest in living in an HMO, their existence helps increase the supply of housing. This puts downward pressure on rents overall, while housing more people.
2. How To Solve The UK Housing Crisis: Refurbish Uninhabitable Properties!
There are many houses that are uninhabitable. You can’t get a regular mortgage to buy these houses, but once refurbished they can make excellent homes. I teach my students how to renovate these properties profitably via the Buy, Refurbish, Refinance, Rent (BRRR) strategy. This strategy allows investors to buy multiple properties with the same pot of cash!
The more people that become property investors and use the BRRR strategy, the greater the supply of houses. Capitalism is win-win! When you help others, you are rewarded.

Every government says it wants to build more houses, but it is up to property investors to actually do it! As you become more experienced as a property investor, you may decide to become a property developer. This is how to solve the UK housing crisis most directly!
