Why Are Landlords Selling Up In 2026?: I predict we will see more landlords going bankrupt this year than we have ever seen before in this country! With massive changes for landlords being brought in by the Labour government, things are about to get a lot worse for many property investors.
In a recent video, I talk about the new fines coming in for landlords in 2026. These fines could wipe out your profits as a landlord, so it is important that you understand them fully. If you own even a single investment property in the UK, make sure to watch this one until the very end.
You can watch the video at the top of this page or on YouTube. If you watch the video on YouTube, let me know in the comments what you think of these new rules. Are they about protecting tenants or are they really about crushing individual landlords? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
So, why are landlords selling up in 2026? Well, the government is making it harder to be a landlord, and there is a reason they are doing it!
In this article, I will explain: what the government is doing to landlords; why they are doing it; and the opportunity for smart investors! By the end of this blog post, you will not only understand how to protect yourself, you will know how to profit from the new rules too!
If you find this article helpful, please pass the kindness on. Please share this article on your social media pages, so more landlords can plan for what is coming. 1. Why Are Landlords Selling Up In 2026?: What The Government Are Doing To Landlords!
The government are bringing in new fines for landlords. These fines will be for various actions prohibited by the Renters' Rights Act. Many landlords don’t yet know about these fines, or understand the new rules.
The fines are tiered, with the lower tier allowing fines of up to £7,000, and the higher tier allowing fines of up to £40,000. The reason for issuing fines range from not renting to someone because they are on benefits to accepting a tenant based on them offering to pay a higher rent than advertised.
2. Why Are Landlords Selling Up In 2026?: The Agenda Behind It!
So what is the intent behind these new rules? I believe the real purpose of these new rules is to make it difficult for individual landlords. The aim is to have large international corporations, banks, and asset managers take over the rental market.
They want the rules to be so complex that the amateur landlord, without support, ends up in a mess. Big businesses, on the other hand, have teams of lawyers to ensure they are largely uneffected by the rules.
3. Why Are Landlords Selling Up In 2026?: The Opportunity For Smart Investors!
If you are educated, you can play the same game as the super rich! They understand the rules, and make them work in their favour. You can do that too.
For example, you can find landlords who want to sell up because of the new rules, and negotiate a quick cash sale, potentially at a big discount. You can then either buy the property, or package and sell the deal for a fee!
