The programme is part of a pattern of mainstream media attacks on the property industry. However, far from exposing estate agents, it actually exposes the BBC’s own sensationalism and unethical conduct!

The BBC Panorama Undercover Estate Agent programme focuses on PurpleBricks and Connells, two of the UK’s biggest estate agents. While the show did offer evidence of some bad practice, the documentary ended up being more of a one-sided smear campaign than serious journalism!
In this article, I will give you 3 reasons why I think the BBC Panorama Undercover Estate Agent show was bad journalism! The BBC wants you to pay for them to propagandise you via the licence fee! By the end of this article, you may decide to stop watching live TV and cancel your licence for good!
Many people are taken in by the biased world-view pushed by the BBC. They think they are getting unbiased information when they are actually receiving one-sided propaganda. 1. BBC Panorama Undercover Estate Agent: Some Bad Practice, But Nothing That Unexpected!
Now, let's be clear, the BBC did find some bad practice. They found overvaluing properties to get clients, for example. They also found that estate agents would chase up the buyers willing to use their mortgage broker, over those that wouldn’t.
These things shouldn’t happen. But you would have to be extremely naive to think they don’t! Every person living in the real world understands these things happen, and guards against them when talking to sales people. Nothing shown was that unexpected that it needed its own TV show about it!
2. BBC Panorama Undercover Estate Agent: Overdramatic Sensationalism!
If the BBC had simply said they found a few things wrong that could be corrected with some policy changes, that would be one thing. But the BBC instead used tabloid sensationalism, with spooky overdramatic music playing, as if they uncovered a major scandal!
The BBC condescended to its audience, acting as if their viewers are painfully naive and would be shocked at what they found! Go undercover in almost any industry, and you will find examples of bad practice. Unless it rises to the level of fraud and real deception, it probably doesn’t require a documentary on it!
3. BBC Panorama Undercover Estate Agent: Unfair On People Just Doing Their Jobs!
The worst thing about the BBC Panorama Undercover Estate Agent programme was that it attempted to make ordinary, hardworking, people look bad!
Imagine if someone came and filmed at your work place secretly. If they filmed for long enough, they could probably find some kind of bad practice, or something they could twist to look like bad practice. The fact that they actually found so little wrongdoing, shows that the employees were doing their jobs well. It is totally unfair on them that their names have been tarnished!
