1. How To Legally Pay 0 Taxes: Tax Residency!
The first step is to become tax resident in a low tax jurisdiction. This normally involves obtaining a residency permit, and staying in that country for a certain number of days a year.
You will also need to be tax non-resident in the UK. This is based on the number of days you are in the UK, plus your ties to the country. This is known as the Statutory Residence Test (SRT). Work with a professional to ensure you are classified as a UK tax non-resident.
2. How To Legally Pay 0 Taxes: Business Structures!
Just because a country is a good location to be a tax resident, it doesn’t mean it is necessarily the best place for your business to be located.
The best place to legally establish your business entity will depend on what type of business you own, and where you are personally tax resident.
3. How To Legally Pay 0 Taxes: Second Passports!
At the moment, the UK only generally taxes you on foreign income if you are a tax resident (or in some cases, if you return to being a UK tax resident in a short period of time).
However, this could change. The USA, for example, taxes all their citizens regardless of where they live in the world. That’s one reason it makes sense to get a second passport in a tax-friendly jurisdiction!
There are a number of nations offering citizenship by investment, either through donations or real estate purchases. As your wealth grows, this is something worth considering.
