What's Wrong With A Wealth Tax?: In a recent video, property investor and economist Adam Lawrence joins me to take on Gary’s Economics (Gary Stevenson), and his viral wealth tax claims.
In the video, we talk about YouTuber and former financial trader, Gary’s Economics, and his ideas about taxing the rich. We explain why he is wrong about a wealth tax, and how he fails to provide individuals with real solutions.
If you want to see Gary’s Economics’ ideas debunked by a real economist, make sure to watch this one until the end. You can watch the video on YouTube, or at the top of this page.
If you watch the video on YouTube, let me know what you think of Gary’s Economics, and his calls for a wealth tax, in the comments section.
As the gap between rich and poor widens, some people have started talking about the idea of a wealth tax. A wealth tax is designed to tax people based on their net worth. That means it takes into account everything you own, not just the income you receive. So, what’s wrong with a wealth tax?
In this article, I will explain why a wealth tax is a bad idea. Wealth taxes don’t help the people they are intended to, but do a massive amount of economic damage. By the end of this blog post, you will understand the threat a wealth tax could be to Britain.
I want people to have a clear answer to the question ‘what’s wrong with a wealth tax?’ That way, they can avoid being manipulated by people like Gary’s Economics. That’s why I have written this article. However, I need some help getting it out to the right people.
If you have family or friends that support a wealth tax, please consider sharing this article with them. Let’s get a conversation going about this issue, and ensure factual information reaches everyone. Sharing our content really helps get the word out, so thank you to everyone who does so.
1. What's Wrong With A Wealth Tax?: Wealth Isn’t Cash!
When some people think of millionaires and billionaires, they imagine that they have all of their money in a bank account somewhere! In reality, rich people have their money in assets.
If you tax a rich business owner based on their net worth, a lot of that money is invested in other things. For example, shares in their own company. A wealth tax could end up causing the sale of some of those assets, effecting markets, and the economy overall.
2. What's Wrong With A Wealth Tax?: Capital Will Move!
The rich have options. There are plenty of places around the world that are more than happy to have them.
If Britain started taxing them based on what they own, rather than simply on what they earn, they would either find a way around it, or move. It would hurt the entire country, it wouldn’t hurt the rich!
3. What's Wrong With A Wealth Tax?: Money Moves From Productive Private Business To Unproductive Government!
Money that is currently invested into companies and other assets by the rich creates new products and services for everyone. The businesses that fail to meet consumer needs, lose money. Those that provide value, make money. All our lives get better over time due to this.
The government, on the other hand, does not produce new value. It takes the value created by the market, and redistributes it. A wealth tax would chip away at invested capital, moving it from productive private businesses to unproductive government!
