Linda said one of the mistakes she sees most when doing The Apprentice interviews is that people expect their businesses to grow too fast. Often, they are planning to have multiple branches across the country in the first year or to be selling internationally. Linda says it is important to walk before you run.
This isn’t about avoiding big goals, but rather being realistic about the amount of time it will take to get there. Linda went from a market stall to a big fashion company, but it took time to do it. If you set realistic steps towards a big goal, you are more likely to reach it.
2. Linda Plant's Business Advice: Stick To What You Know!
Another piece of Linda Plant's business advice is stick to what you know. For example, she doesn’t understand cryptocurrency, so she doesn’t invest in it! Many people try to do too many things and end up doing none of them well. Become an expert in your field and focus on it!
Master your business area and then expand into related businesses, don’t try to do many unrelated ventures. If you focus on what you are good at, you have a better chance at making it in the business and investing world.
3. Linda Plant's Business Advice: Make The Time!
Linda was a busy mother when she was building her business, but that didn’t stop her. Linda says it is important not to say ‘I don’t have the time’, but to find the time instead. While it can be hard to start a business when you have other pressing commitments, it is possible.
Linda is a big advocate for women in business, and encourages mothers to set aside time for building a company. In many cases, it can pay off for the entire family!
