There are many things people say that you need to give up to become successful. Often people say you need to give up sleeping 8 hours a night, Netflix, holidays and social media to name but a few. I don’t agree with any of that. I think social media is a great tool for your business. I enjoy winding down and watching Netflix. I think getting a good night's sleep is important, and I come up with some of my best business ideas while I am on holiday. Many people just copy what they read in a book about success and actually have no idea what it takes to make it.
In this article, I am going to go into the 5 things I think you actually have to give up if you want to become a millionaire in 2022. They are probably not what you were expecting to see but they are the exact things that helped me get to where I am today. Get a pen and paper and take some notes.
1. Excuses and justifications
If you want to be a millionaire you need to stop making excuses. You need to stop giving justifications as to why you are failing. If you are saying it is harder for you to make it than for others, you won’t make it. Some people have it easier than others for sure, but if you allow yourself to think that way you are going nowhere. Choose beliefs that serve you. Find your advantage, don’t focus on your disadvantages.
2.Trading your time for money
You need to find a way to stop trading your time for money. A lot of people have heard this but many have no idea what it means. It means you need to find a way to charge for the value that you bring, rather than the hours that you work. If you are being paid hourly, it is almost impossible to get rich. There aren’t enough hours in the day! You need scalable businesses and investments that don’t rely on the number of hours you work.
3.Listening to bad news
People are addicted to bad news. ‘The news’ should be called the ‘bad news’ because that is what it focuses on. People love bad news and so the media delivers it to them. But to be successful you need to focus on the positive, not the negative. Train your mind to only seek out positive news.
4. Taking advice from the wrong people
If you want to be rich, you need to take advice from rich people. There is no point asking your parents, teachers or your mates down the pub (unless they happen to be rich). Find people that have done what you want to do and learn from them. Those that haven’t done it themselves can’t help you, no matter how well meaning they might be.
5. Fear of failure
Failure is the stepping stone to success. Everyone in the business world fails before they succeed. Don’t be afraid of failing, accept it as part of your process of succeeding. Don’t pay attention to what others will think of you. Take action and know where you are going.
