Meet My Mentor…….
In my recent interview, I tackled the question of whether one needs a mentor or not with one of the well-established names, Tony, in the world of property and business, who chose to be a coach and has had mentors over the years.

Talk to us a little bit about the power of having a mentor
I really feel that, in business, you need accountability as you need somebody to reach out to.
I mean, if you think of any business, it always has the board of directors, somebody above the C.E.O, and then ultimately the shareholders above that and so, you are always being accountable.
Being in business can be a lonely place, it is important to have mentorship, and this is something that I have learned over the years.
When I was young I didn't think that I needed help and just went out there and thought I’m just going to do this myself by working really hard because I was savvy however, I sort of pushed people away such as my cousin who reached out to me many years ago and asked whether I needed help but I refused and even ended up avoiding his calls.
I thought, why would somebody else who doesn't know exactly what I’m doing be able to help me? I was wrong on that.
Do you regret not taking help sooner?
Absolutely, yes because, being a C.E.O of any business is a very lonely place and you know that you'll be making decisions all the time based on what you're trying to get out of it and if you've got nobody to sound bored off of and nobody to sort of share ideas with, then how do you know it's the right decision?
It’s important to have a mentor even if they don't know exactly what your business is about and by you talking to somebody helps you sort of enforce that decision in your head whether it's the right thing to solve the problem or not.
If you do not have an official mentor or a business coach to follow and to guide you, I feel like you will end up getting the wrong kind of advice from people with no business related experiences.
In anything you do, you need guidance and people that will hold you accountable of the decisions you make concerning the business you are operating hence the need of a mentor.
