In a recent video for my YouTube channel, I sat down with my brother Russell to discuss the best and worst money making skills in 2024. In the video, we go into detail about each skill and give an exact breakdown of the positives and negatives of them all.

1. Stock Market Investing

We both agreed that the stock market can be a safe and steady way to make money. But it is also slow! It is a good way to save money, but it isn’t great if you want a way to create wealth quickly. So while we like it, it isn't one of the best money making skills in 2024!
2. Drop-Shipping
– Samuel: 5
– Russell: 6
We think this is more for young people getting their first start in business. It's not really something that we see as particularly scalable in most cases. That said, there are some people making a lot of money doing this.
3. Garage Saling
– Samuel: 3
– Russell: 0
We both see this as a waste of time! If you are a child or teenager trying out your first business venture, then go for it. If not, there are much better things to do with your time! Even if you get good at this, the opportunity cost is too high!
4. Cryptocurrency
– Samuel: 3
– Russell: 3
This is a zero-sum game. If you win, someone else loses. While we see a place for cryptocurrency, and I like the idea of getting the government out of our money, it isn’t something either of us recommend as a money making skill.
5. Copywriting
– Samuel: 7
– Russell: 4
I have seen a lot of people offering this as a service. In my opinion, it is a great place to start in business. Russell, however, thinks the market may be somewhat saturated as a lot of people are learning copywriting right now.
6. Rent to Rent
– Samuel: 10
– Russell: 9
Rent to rent is extremely profitable and can be somewhat passive, if done correctly. It doesn’t take a lot of capital to get started and can be scaled into a large business. Both of us highly recommend it.
7. Deal Selling/Deal Sourcing
– Samuel: 10
– Russell: 10
Deal sourcing is great because the property market has a lot of money flowing through it. That means it is easy to charge fees of a few thousand pounds per deal. While it uses some of the skills of garage saling, in the sense you are finding under priced things and finding buyers for them, deal sourcing is way more profitable!
8. Network Marketing
– Samuel: 9
– Russell: 6
I love network marketing, not so much for the business opportunity, but for the skills it teaches. Doing network marketing allows you to learn the skills needed to start a business without very much risk. Russell isn’t as keen and thinks it can be hard to make money doing it.
9. Affiliate Marketing
– Samuel: 9
– Russell: 8
Most YouTubers and content creators are affiliate marketers. Affiliate marketing allows you to make money by promoting products you like to your audience. It can be a source of a lot of revenue. Many young people made a lot of money promoting Andrew Tate’s programmes, for example. In our opinion, this is a great money making skill in 2024!
